Winning writers in local dioceses

For the first time in the eight years that the Knights of the Southern Cross has been running its religious writing competition, it has attracted more than 100 entries.

Students from nine colleges entered the national competition, with two winners coming from Wellington and Palmerston North dioceses.

Olivia van Woerkom from Ss Peter and Paul School Lower Hutt, was a winner in the under-14 category.

Kate van Dillen of New Plymouth’s Sacred Heart College scored in the under-16 category.

Entrants were asked to outline ways that their college or parish currently carries forward the work of Christ and to suggest new ways for doing that work. The entries showed that:

One DRS thanked the committee, saying: ‘The set topic makes students think of about how RE classes relate to daily life and this is very helpful.’
