‘I believe Mother Aubert was no social worker, but rather a Jesus worker,’ Fr Nathaniel Brazil said in his homily at midday Mass celebrating her birth date on 19 June 2019. Parishioners were involved in the ministries and Mass concluded with Fr Chris Skinner’s song With our Mother Suzanne and a reading of Eileen Duggan’s poem, A tribute to Mother Suzanne. Lunch and a dvd about this woman of great faith – he wahine whakapono nui, followed. Suzanne Aubert arrived in Whanganui in 1883 from Hawke’s Bay by train to begin 16 years mainly in Jerusalem. She often visited St Mary’s Church then situated in the main street, Victoria Avenue.
