Twenty-seven religious institutions have announced their decision to divest from fossil fuel companies, calling for an end to the fossil fuel era, and sent a clear and bold message to the leaders and negotiators gathered at COP29 in Baku last month. The religious leaders said the decision ‘is an act of faith and a commitment to consistency with Christian values.’ In a statement they said: ‘With this action, we wish to be consistent with our faith, as well as to invite the faithful to consider their finances, since this is part of the conversion journey for all of us. This call is profound: to recognise that every decision, even financial, has an ethical and spiritual dimension.’
