WelCom December 2018:
A respectful silence then a peel of many bells marked the beginning of a special Eucharist in memory of those who served in WW1. Two retired priests from the Archdiocese – Frs Julian Wagg and Frank Whitaker – concelebrated Mass on Armistice Day, Sunday 11 November, at St Joseph’s Church, Mt Victoria. Along with most people in the congregation, they had strong family links to the brave Catholic men and women who left families behind to fight in Europe. In his reflective homily Fr Wagg referred to the dignity of the fallen and the honour of serving others in life. Students from nearby St Patrick’s College assisted with the liturgy, including the poignant ringing of their 100-year-old school handbell. Poetry, photos and memories were shared afterwards in the hall.
