I’m such a people person and seeing the cathedral full of people on Palm Sunday made me happy – people are great! The first of these Archdiocesan Youth & Young Adult Masses for 2006 was especially significant for young people. Why? Palm’≈°√É‚Äû’¬†Sunday’≈°√É‚Äû’¬†is also World Youth Day where young people of the world are called to celebrate being young and Catholic. There was something magical about the way the piazza lights illuminated the giant palms as Archbishop John Dew welcomed us. And then the haunting call of the conch encouraged us to process in – walking into the mass with palms and flags, was very special. Organised by a crew of young adults (we were all former World Youth Day pilgrims), the liturgy tried to emphasize the link between World Youth Day and Palm Sunday and the celebration and passion that are integral to both. Add to that music led by Kilbirnie’s LifeTeen Ministry and it’s not surprising that this Mass was met with rave reviews. The Archdiocesan Youth Office coordinated these Youth & Young Adult Masses which look to become a regular feature on the calendar with different ministries from around Wellington taking the reins as organisers. The next one is set for 16 July so mark it in your diaries now! For more information contact Rebekah or Chris:
