On Sunday 20 October St Teresa’s parish Featherston celebrated the feast of its patron St Teresa of Avila with a number of special touches recalling the young woman known as ‘the little flower’.
A banner of St Teresa was placed on the lawn in front of the church and, as people arrived, they were greeted with a little pot of flowers lovingly prepared by fellow parishioners. A special display was made in front of the altar with a Samoan theme.
A picture of St Teresa, painted by parishioner Joy Cowley, was brought up to the altar in the entrance procession and placed in the display.
Parish Priest, Fr Don Morrison, preached about St Teresa’s life and her contribution to the church. Special prayers of the faithful by children from the parish included references to St Teresa and her works. School principal Karolina Surynt-Tapiki attended from her home over the Rimutaka hill and representatives of St John’s Uniting Church and from St Patrick’s parish in Masterton were there also.
The celebration ended with a sumptuous lunch.
