WelCom March 2020:
Bob Houston
With barely one month to go before our official opening, when looking at the nearly complete faith centre that is Our Lady of Kāpiti Church and Community Centre, it is difficult not to be overcome by emotion brought about as our faith dream nears reality.
It is just on six years since our new Parish of Our Lady of Kāpiti was formed and the whole concept of redevelopment began, when Cardinal John Dew proposed the new school and parish complex should stand side-by-side, together.
An ideal site was proposed and smartly purchased. Immediately for most, we entered a dream of uncertainty, with a set of sums, that seemed beyond normal comprehension and understanding. Plenty of questions were being asked and our faith was put to the test for the journey ahead.
But we have done it.
Doubts became faith, with the result that the journey is nearly complete, and now we look forward to entering with renewed hope of what is going to be the hub of our Catholic faith community in Kāpiti for the next 100 years and more.
We have often spoken of the legacy left in place by those who have come before us. Now we have in place the framework for what will be the legacy for those who will follow us.
We can never forget the Church is the people, and our legacy will be truly established by the continuance of our energetic and faithful practice of our Catholic faith ahead.
Our Lady of Kāpiti Church and Community Centre will open with Mass on April 5, 2020.
Bob Houston is Chair, Our Lady of Kāpiti Parish Council.
