The chairperson of St Pius X parish, Titahi Bay, Pauline Boyles, was sworn in as a JP on March 25 after two years of interviews and training. Pauline’s particularly concerned for people with disability, having a disability herself ‘and there are very few JPs in New Zealand who represent in any way the disability community.
‘I particularly wanted to be available to the Catholic community and to be of service to people with disabilities especially those with intellectual disabilities who often find they are not treated with respect or given appropriate support.
Dr Boyles was born in England and came to New Zealand in 1990 to work as senior lecturer in disability studies at the Wellington College of Education. She now runs her own company, DREAM Achievers, and is president of the Wellington Riding for the Disabled Association. She is currently contracted to the Capital and Coast District Health Board to develop disability training.
